Who may apply:

• Incoming freshmen to rising senior (see renewal requirements)

• The student must be a full-time student (min. 12 hours per semester) and,

• The student must be a degree-seeking undergraduate

 

How to apply:

• Complete the Houston Family Scholarship Fund Application online on both the TSU Foundation AcademicWorks site and the East Tennessee Chapter website

• Complete the FASFA for the current year for which the student is applying (Please forward the EFC page, not the entire FASFA)

• Official Transcript

• Required essay: “How are you as a student and future Tennessee State University Student going to use these funds to advance and reach your goals?”

 

When to apply:

• July 1 through January 30, annually.

 

Eligible majors:

• All majors are eligible. However, Engineering students will be given preference. This award is a grant and does not need to be repaid,

 

Eligibility Requirements:

• You must be Tennessee residents.

• Must reside in one of the following counties: Anderson, Blount, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hawkins, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Sevier, Sullivan & Washington.

• The student must provide an official copy of their financial aid award letter via screenshot or original paper copy,

• The student must also provide a copy of the EFC page from their most recent FASFA of the year they are applying,

• A 3.5 or greater grade point average and no ACT requirement,

• Attend sponsored East Tennessee Alumni Chapter student recruitment events (verification required)

Renewal Requirements:

• Returning sophomore to rising senior

• A 3.5 or greater grade point average

• Required essay: “Please describe your experience at TSU (included your activities and leadership experience) and how these funds will enhance your experience on campus.”

• The student must be a full-time student (min. 12 hours per semester) and,

• The student must be a degree-seeking undergraduate in good standing

• Also, contact Mr. and Mrs. Houston 

 

Award Amount:

• The amount of the award is 1 - one-thousand-dollar scholarship annually.

• Funds may not be available to award all eligible students.

 

Renewing an award:

• Interested students must apply every semester they are interested in applying for funds and follow the criteria listed above.

• The student must reapply to be considered for renewability.
